Gail Porter vs Cllr Chris Knight on the eco-driving simulator
women drivers v men drivers

arm in sling

It is often said that women are more concerned about the environment and are safer drivers than men, but the results of the eco-driving simulator challenge seem to prove otherwise... or is it just that men spend more time on their game consoles.

London residents and businesses were challenged to beat Gail Porter to the top of the 'smart driving' leaderboard at Camden's Green Motor Expo, and many of them did. Unsurprisingly, the top scorers spend their day-jobs managing, promoting or developing energy efficient transport.

Notably Connaught Engineering, developers of the RWD HYBRID+ vans on show, unfortunately for Connaught, the prizes are only available to visitors of the Expo, not competitors.

The guest speakers also performed well, with Courier Systems, AV2Hire and Camden Council's Cllr Chris Knight all appearing in the top ten. Dan from TfL FORS made a valiant effort, despite having to drive with one arm in a sling.

The five minute training sessions on the simulator were provided by Global Action Plan and included tips how to drive safer and more efficiently - saving money on fuel bills and reducing emissions without having to buy a new car.

Prizes

The top two eligible drivers will be awarded a widescreen Navman S90i satnav or a year's free membership to Streetcar.

Streetcar Membership Card

Streetcar is the UK’s largest pay-as-you-go car club, the scheme currently has VW cars and vans available at 1,000 locations across seven cities, with over 3,500 members in Camden alone.

The company's 58,000 car club members will be the first people in Europe to be able to hire a car with the plug-in hybrid technology exhibited at the Expo.

If the trial, which is backed by Camden Council and Transport for London, proves popular the company will aim to roll out more plug-in hybrids across the capital.
